Answering to a calling

Hey friends!

Have you ever wondered what your purpose is? Have you found it yet? And if so, what are you doing to follow through with it?

I know, I know—this is pretty deep to dive into right away! But honey, these are the questions I’ve been asking myself lately. I can’t count how many times someone has told me that I have “a calling” or that there’s something special about my path. And every time I hear it, it honestly throws me for a loop. I know what I want to do, but is that truly what I’m meant to do? Do you ever feel that way? Like you’re stuck between what you love and what you’re actually called to do?

Let me give you a little background. I work in Higher Education, specifically in Student Affairs, and it’s been such a blessing. My dream is to one day become a Dean of Students—Lord willing, that will happen. But sometimes I wonder…is that my calling, or is it just my plan? I mean, I love what I do. Helping students, supporting them, guiding them—it all feels right. But is it God’s purpose for me, or is it just the path I’ve chosen?

People often tell me I have a natural ministry, that I have a nurturing and caring spirit that’s meant for something bigger than what I’m doing now. And while I love the work, the question nags at me: is there something more I’m supposed to be doing? Am I really aligning with what God wants for me, or am I following what I want?

I’ll get deeper into my faith and how it all ties together in future posts, but this has really been on my heart. I keep asking myself: is this my true purpose? And if it is, then what else does God want me to do with it?

So, here’s where I need you. Have any of you ever felt this way? Like you’re living with purpose, but you’re unsure if it’s the purpose? Or am I just overthinking this? Let’s talk about it—drop a comment and let me know your thoughts. We’re on this journey together, right?

Authentically,

Tam

Tam! This is soooo good and soooo deep! My personal opinion if it means anything…as a Christian, our purpose is to know Christ and make him known! You have such an infectious energy that makes people draw near to you! From the outside looking in, your purpose is to laugh with people, help people, encourage people, advocate for people, well u get the gist. I believe ur purpose will always cater to your strengths, but your purpose can also change based on where you are in life. All that to say, being an RD is your purpose now. Hopefully being a Dean of Students will be your purpose one day, but i think THE purpose for your life is to simply love, advocate, and serve people no matter what! 🫶🏻

So, when I read the blog, there was no way I was going to type all of what I thought I wanted to say on my phone. No ma'am Tam (instead of Pam) :-D I'm on my laptop.

Last night I had a lot to say, but here is my opinion, not that it matters. What you love is what you are called to do. It's not that you are stuck between the "two" because it is ONE all within itself, which is your purpose.

Being the dean of students is not the calling of the position but is the calling to serve while being in the position. Think about your current role as a RD. You have a LOVE for what you do and when you are doing what you love to do, you are a providing a service that may be seen or unforeseen to others and possibly yourself; this leads to you to your purpose. This is just the beginning to where there are levels to this. You are well on your way. Your Love, or should I say your Purpose is on its way to being GRAND (you will see the different phases throughout time, which are the levels).

You are a servant that is working in your purpose because of the love that you have to help, support, and guide others. THIS IS THE CALLING! THIS IS YOUR MINISTRY! THIS IS YOUR PURPOSE!

My dad use to tell me that if you serve, you will be rich, meaning, Be good to yourself, be good to others, and be good to the world and you will be blessed in the favor of God.

You are serving in your purpose because of the love you have.
